نَظري حَدَّقته في خَدِّهِ

نَظري حَدَّقته في خَدِّهِ

لِشُهودي خاله سالِبُ لبّي

لِشُهودي خاله سالِبُ لبّي

I fixed my gaze upon his cheek,

My gaze lingered on his cheek

to behold his mole, the thief of my wits.

Witnesses saw the mole that stole my heart

قالَ لي لَحظُكَ عَنهُ كفَّه

قالَ لي لَحظُكَ عَنهُ كفَّه

قلتُ دَعني ها هنا حَبّة قَلبي

قلتُ دَعني ها هنا حَبّة قَلبي

He said to me, "Keep your gaze off it."

He said to me, "Avert your eyes!"

I said, "Leave me be; here is my heart's kernel."

I said "Let me be, o piece of my heart!"
