He visited me after estrangement and coldness.
After estrangement and aloofness, you visited me,
So I began to explain what I had suffered and recount it.
So I began relating what I underwent, remembering days gone by.
فَغَدتso they began مِنَfrom الشّمسِthe sun الكَواكبُthe stars عندat ذاthis
فَغَدت مِنَ الشّمسِ الكَواكبُ عند ذا

خَجلاً تَسيلُ عَلى الهِلال فَتقطرُ
At this, the stars from the sun began
Thus the stars in the presence of the sun grew dim with shame,
To stream in shame upon the crescent, then drip.
Trickling dewdrops on the crescent moon.
