يَظنّ جَميلَهُ لِلقبحِ ساتِرْ
He mingles evil deeds with good;
Good deeds intermix with evil acts
He thinks his goodness a veil for ugliness.
He thinks his beauty hides the ugly
فَماyet ... not حَسناتُهhis good deeds إِلّاexcept وُضوءٌablution
فَما حَسناتُه إِلّا وُضوءٌ
وَلَيسَand ... are not ذنوبُهhis sins إِلّاexcept الكَبائرْthe major sins
وَلَيسَ ذنوبُه إِلّا الكَبائرْ
Yet his good deeds are nothing but ablution,
So his virtues are but ablution
And his sins are nothing but major sins.
And his sins are only mortal
