تَكامَلَhe attained perfection فيin كلِّevery المَحاسِنِbeauty وَاِزدَهىand shone in splendor
تَكامَلَ في كلِّ المَحاسِنِ وَاِزدَهى
وَبيand in me دَعجdeep blackness of the eyes فيin عَينِهِhis eye وَاِحورارُand vivid contrast between eye-white and dark iris
وَبي دَعج في عَينِهِ وَاِحورارُ
He attained perfection in every beauty and shone in splendor.
Blessed with every charm, she shines more bright,
And within me are his eye’s deep blackness and vivid black-and-white contrast.
And in her eyes a teasing softness lies.
فَلاso no عَيبَflaw فيهِin him غَيرَexcept أَنّthat جفونَهhis eyelids
فَلا عَيبَ فيهِ غَيرَ أَنّ جفونَه
بِهاin them صارَcame to be مِنfrom سِحرِmagic العُيونِthe eyes اِنكِسارُa languid droop
بِها صارَ مِن سِحرِ العُيونِ اِنكِسارُ
So he has no flaw, except that his eyelids
No fault in her but this: her lids deny
Have acquired a languid droop from the magic of eyes.
The rapture of her glance to starry skies.
