العَفوُforgiveness مِنamong شِيَمthe traits الكِبارِthe great وخُلقِهمand their character
العَفوُ مِن شِيَم الكِبارِ وخُلقِهم
وَالجَهلُand ignorance مِنamong شِيَمِthe traits الصّغارِlesser men الجاهلينthe ignorant
وَالجَهلُ مِن شِيَمِ الصّغارِ الجاهلين
Forgiveness is among the traits of the great and part of their character.
Forgiveness is a trait of the great and mature,
And ignorance is among the traits of lesser, ignorant men.
While ignorance is a trait of the foolish youth.
كَمhow many مِنof صَغيرٍa lesser man لاnot أراهI see him مُؤاخذاًheld accountable
كَم مِن صَغيرٍ لا أراه مُؤاخذاً
فيfor ذَنبِهِhis offense عِندَin the judgment of اللّبيبِthe wise man العاقلِthe sensible
في ذَنبِهِ عِندَ اللّبيبِ العاقلِ
Many a lesser man I see not held accountable
How often I see those of lesser minds,
For his offense in the eyes of the wise, sensible man.
Whose faults I do not hold against their reason.
