عَلىupon خَدِّهاher cheek مُسوَدُّthe black part سالِفِهاof her sidelock بَداappeared
وَفيهِand in it اِعوِجاجٌa curve لَيتَwould that روحيmy soul لَهُfor it الفِداransom
Her black sidelock appeared upon her cheek,
And it is curved—would that my soul were its ransom!
وَإِنَّهُماand indeed the two of them عِنديto me هِلالٌa crescent moon وَبَعضُهُand part of it
مُضيءٌshining وَبَعضٌand a part مِنهُof it ماnot زالَceased to be أَسوداblack
And indeed, to me the two are a crescent moon, part of it
Shining, while another part of it remains black.
