The down on my beloved's cheeks appeared

and kept spreading across the sun.

And it gained a delicate splendor

in a garden of water and fire.

And it was, without doubt, myrtle

    emerging from pomegranate blossom.

And it was the halo of a full moon,

free from the moon's dark phase.

And musk would resemble it, but only

if it appeared in pure gold.

So I said, 'No musk—mark the date—

comes after the musk of the cheek-down.'
