بَكَيتُI wept دَماًblood أَحرَقَscorched العشبَthe grass فيin الفَلاthe wilderness
بَكَيتُ دَماً أَحرَقَ العشبَ في الفَلا
بِحينِat the time of وَداعيmy farewell منthe one who أَثارَstirred شُجونيmy sorrows
بِحينِ وَداعي من أَثارَ شُجوني
I wept blood that scorched the grass in the wilderness,
as I bade farewell to the one who stirred my sorrows.
وَلاand no بدعَwonder نارُthe fire البَينِof parting فيin القَلبِthe heart أَضرمتblazed
وَلا بدعَ نارُ البَينِ في القَلبِ أَضرمت
فَهاso behold جَمرُهاits embers قَدindeed أَسقَطَتهُhave shed them عُيونيmy eyes
فَها جَمرُها قَد أَسقَطَتهُ عُيوني
And no wonder: the fire of parting blazed in my heart;
so behold its embers, which my eyes have shed.
