وَشادٍand a singer رَخيمِmellow الصّوتِthe voice كَالشّمسِlike the sun وَجههhis face
يُغنِّيhe sings عَلىto دفٍّa tambourine فَيَلعَبُso he plays بِالنّفسِupon the soul
And a singer, mellow-voiced, his face like the sun,
And a singer with a mellow voice, his face like the sun,
sings to a tambourine and plays upon the soul.
Sings to a tambourine and so plays upon the soul.
وَضَوءand the light مُحيّاهُof his face مِنَfrom الدّفِّthe tambourine نافِذٌpassing through
فَيَبدوso it appears بِهِby it شَمساًa sun تُشاهَدis seen بِالحسِّby the senses
The radiance of his countenance shines out beyond the tambourine,
And the light of his face shines through the tambourine,
and through it he appears a sun made visible to the senses.
So it appears by that light as a sun, visible to the senses.
وَلاand no شَكّdoubt أَنّthat الشّمسَthe sun تَبدوappears بِكَفِّهِin his palm
فَكَأنّهُso it is as though he إِذاwhen غَنّىhe sings يدقّhe beats عَلىupon الشّمسِthe sun
No doubt the sun itself appears within his palm:
And there is no doubt that the sun appears in his palm,
when he sings, it is as though he beats upon the sun.
So when he sings, it is as though he beats upon the sun.
