بالرّوحِwith my soul as ransom خالٌa mole تبدّىappeared وَسْطَin the middle of جَبْهَتِهِhis forehead
بالرّوحِ خالٌ تبدّى وَسْطَ جَبْهَتِهِ
بحُبِّهِwith love for him قَلبُthe heart of مُضْناهُhis lovesick admirer لقَدْindeed شُغِفاwas enthralled
بحُبِّهِ قَلبُ مُضْناهُ لقَدْ شُغِفا
My soul be ransom for a mole that appeared in the middle of his forehead.
His lovesick admirer’s heart is indeed enthralled with love for him.
كأنّهُas though it were نُقطَةٌa drop مِنْof عَنْبرٍambergris سُكِبَتْwas poured
كأنّهُ نُقطَةٌ مِنْ عَنْبرٍ سُكِبَتْ
وَسْطَin the middle of الهِلالِthe crescent فزَادَتْand so it increased حُسْنَهُits beauty شَرَفاin splendor
وَسْطَ الهِلالِ فزَادَتْ حُسْنَهُ شَرَفا
As though it were a drop of ambergris poured
Into the crescent’s midst, adding splendor to its beauty.
