ماhow أَحسَنbeautiful اللّيلthe night إِذwhen تَزهوshine كَواكِبهُits stars
وَالبدرُand the full moon قَدhas مالَinclined نَحوَtoward الغَربِthe west وَاِقتَرباand drawn near
How beautiful the night is when its stars shine!
And the full moon has inclined toward the west and drawn near.
وَالبَرقُand the lightning مِنfrom جَنبِهِits side أَبدىrevealed تَلامعهُits flashes
عَلىin التواليsuccession وَقَدand already هَبَّتblew نَسيمa breeze صباof the east wind
And lightning from beside it revealed its flashes,
One after another, while a breeze from the east blew.
فَأَنجُمُso the stars اللَّيلِof the night إِذwhen تَشدوsings الصَّباthe east wind رَقَصتdanced
وَالغَربُand the west بِالسّيفِwith the sword ثمّthen الترسِthe shield قَدhas لَعِباplayed
So the stars of night danced as the east wind sang,
And the west played with the sword, then the shield.
