Indeed, cheek-down has sprouted on his cheeks,

a delightful growth one never tires of.

And it has come to resemble sweet basil in beauty,

and now is watered with the water of modesty.

And the eyelids guard it with arrows of lashes,

and his two glances with swords unsheathed.

    بِها لَم يَحكِه في اللُّطفِ طَلُّ

    And the cheeks water it with rosewater;

no dew upon them has matched it in delicacy.

So his fragrance wafted in breaths of perfume,

lawful to none but his lovesick lover.

And his face has become tender and fresh,

his cheek-down now peeping out upon it,

like a garden, manifest in splendor—I marked its date—

holding water over which a shadow flutters.
