يا شَمعَةً لَيسَت تُشابِهُني

يا شَمعَةً لَيسَت تُشابِهُني

إِذ كلّنا قَد ذابَ وَاِحتَرقا

إِذ كلّنا قَد ذابَ وَاِحتَرقا

O candle that does not resemble me,

though we have both melted and burned:

يَبقى لَها رَمَقٌ إِذا اِحتَرَقَت

يَبقى لَها رَمَقٌ إِذا اِحتَرَقَت

لَكِنّني قَد صِرتُ لا رَمَقا

لَكِنّني قَد صِرتُ لا رَمَقا

a breath of life remains in her when she burns,

but I am left without a breath of life.
