لقَدْindeed دَخَلَentered الرِّياضَthe gardens وماسَand swayed تِيهاًin pride
لقَدْ دَخَلَ الرِّياضَ وماسَ تِيهاً
رَشاًa young gazelle فاقَsurpassed الهِلالَthe crescent moon بوَجْنَتَيْهِwith his two cheeks
رَشاً فاقَ الهِلالَ بوَجْنَتَيْهِ
Indeed, he entered the gardens, swaying in proud grace—
Indeed, he entered the gardens and swayed in pride—
slender, his two cheeks outshining the crescent moon.
a young gazelle whose cheeks outshone the crescent moon.
وَمالَتand leaned نَحوَهُtoward him الأغصانُthe branches شَوْقاًin longing
وَمالَت نَحوَهُ الأغصانُ شَوْقاً
وشِبْهُand the likeness of الشّيءِthe thing مُنجَذِبٌdrawn إلَيْهِtoward it
وشِبْهُ الشّيءِ مُنجَذِبٌ إلَيْهِ
The branches leaned toward him in longing,
And the branches leaned toward him in longing,
and like is drawn to like.
and a thing’s likeness is drawn toward it.
