فيon خَدِّهِhis cheek مُذْsince بَداappeared عِذارٌa line of cheek-down
قَدindeed دَخلَentered اللّيلُthe night فيinto النّهارِthe day

night has entered day.
كِلاهُماboth of them فيwithin أَخيهِits brother يَجريflows
فَكانَso was كلٌّeach أَجلَّthe noblest جارِneighbor
Each flows within its brother,
so each was the noblest neighbor.
فَالبَدرُso the full moon فيthrough اللَّيلِthe night ظلّkept يَسريtraveling by night
وَاللَّيلُand the night فيthrough البدرِthe full moon ظلَّkept ساريtraveling by night
So the full moon kept gliding through the night,
and night kept gliding through the full moon.
