Joy has pervaded all creation and humankind,

And delight has spread through souls and forms.

And joy's gray doves called, singing with the east wind's gentleness,

And began to put the sound of flute and strings to shame.

And blessing came as a herald, pleasing to behold,

And good fortune followed him, a camel courier close behind.

And I saw the sky, its stars drawing near,

And fancied it dancing with the radiant stars.

And I beheld the garden of congratulations, its splendor restored,

And it came to be clothed in pearls of joy.

It rewarded the herald who came to bring it glad tidings,

And lavished on him a gift of the blossoms' jewels.

And in it, above its branches, joyfully called

The nightingales of gladness at evening and at dawn:

    لَقَد أَتى قرّةً لِلطرفِ وَالنظرِ

    Rejoice, Ali, in the son you have been granted;

He has indeed come, a delight to eye and gaze.

A son, fortunate and praiseworthy in character, has come,

Bearing the same name as the Chosen One of Mudar,

On his birthday, in the month of his birth—

    Rabi al-Awwal, outshining Safar.

So rejoice in him, mighty lion of al-Shara, lion of the lair,

A cub, handsome of face, outshining the houris.

And you are the sun of eminence and might, high in honor,

On a pinnacle above the summit of glory and pride.

    عوّذته الدهرَ بالآيات والسور

    And this full moon indeed had its origin in you;

I have sought protection for him for all time with verses and surahs.

So I began to marvel that the full moon's birth

Should come from the sun, while thought's hand toyed with me.

Then his chronogram spoke, inspired: 'It is no wonder

If the moon's birth should come from the sun.'

May my Lord preserve him, and may God preserve you for him,

In life's fullest ease, in serenity without distress,

As long as a star gleams and a collared dove sings,

As long as the wind sets the branches of trees dancing.
