حُسن الخُدودِ وَالقَدّ

حُسن الخُدودِ وَالقَدّ

Among the causes of love

Is the beauty of cheeks and figure.

وَموجباتُ الجَوى

وَموجباتُ الجَوى

حَرُّ الغَرامِ وَالوَجد

حَرُّ الغَرامِ وَالوَجد

And what brings heartache

Is the heat of passion and longing.

وَمِن فُروعِ النّوى

وَمِن فُروعِ النّوى

زودُ الهيامِ بِالجدّ

زودُ الهيامِ بِالجدّ

And among separation’s offshoots

Is an earnest increase in love’s frenzy.

وَمَن يَرومُ السِّوى

وَمَن يَرومُ السِّوى

واجِب عَلَيهِ الحَدّ

واجِب عَلَيهِ الحَدّ

And whoever seeks another

Must face the prescribed punishment.
