تَأَمَّل بِدارٍ تَسرُّ الحَشا

تَأَمَّل بِدارٍ تَسرُّ الحَشا

وَتَحكُم لِلرّوحِ أَن يَنعشا

وَتَحكُم لِلرّوحِ أَن يَنعشا

Contemplate a house that delights the heart,

Behold a house that pleases the nobles

and ordains that the spirit be revived;

And bids the soul to be refreshed

وَتَقضي لِتَرصينِ بُنيانِها

وَتَقضي لِتَرصينِ بُنيانِها

لِمَن قَد يَراها بِأَن يدهشا

لِمَن قَد يَراها بِأَن يدهشا

and, through the firmness of its structure, decrees

And decrees that its firm structure

that whoever sees it shall be amazed.

Amazes those who behold it

تسامي الثريّا وَرَأسَ السهى

تسامي الثريّا وَرَأسَ السهى

وَتَعلو السّماكينِ ثمَّ الرَّشا

وَتَعلو السّماكينِ ثمَّ الرَّشا

It rivals the Pleiades and the head of al-Suhā in height,

The freshness soars high and the summit of glory

and rises above the two Simāk stars, then al-Rashā.

And the skyscrapers rise then the sprinklers

تَمَنَّتْ بُروجُ السّماءِ بِأَنْ

تَمَنَّتْ بُروجُ السّماءِ بِأَنْ

تَكونَ قُصوراً بِها تنتَشا

تَكونَ قُصوراً بِها تنتَشا

The constellations of heaven wished that

The towers of the sky wished

they might become palaces, reveling within it.

To become palaces inhabited in it

فَيُوسُف مَع صِنوِهِ عمرٍ

فَيُوسُف مَع صِنوِهِ عمرٍ

عَلى المَجدِ أَركانُها عرَّشا

عَلى المَجدِ أَركانُها عرَّشا

For Yusuf, together with his brother Umar,

So Yusuf and the era of his reign

raised its pillars upon glory.

On glory its pillars seated

وَقَد مَلَأ الحسنُ أَكنافَها

وَقَد مَلَأ الحسنُ أَكنافَها

وَماءُ النّضارَةِ فيها مَشى

وَماءُ النّضارَةِ فيها مَشى

And beauty has filled its corners,

And beauty has filled its corners

and the water of freshness has flowed through it.

And the water of youth in it walked

كَذا اليُمنُ أَرّخته نالَها

كَذا اليُمنُ أَرّخته نالَها

وَطيرُ السّعودِ بِها عَشعَشا

وَطيرُ السّعودِ بِها عَشعَشا

Thus good fortune—I recorded its date—came to it,

Thus good fortune dated it, attained it

and the birds of good fortune nested within it.

And the bird of prosperity in it nested
