أَهدَيتَنيyou gave me قَمرَmoon الدّينِof the faith الَّذيwhich شُفيتwere healed
أَوصابُthe ailments قَلبٍof a heart بِهِthrough it إِذwhen كانَit was مُنفَطِراbreaking
You gave me Qamar al-Din—the moon of faith—through which were healed
The ailments of a heart, when it was breaking.
وَإِنّكَand indeed you الشّمسُthe sun فَضلاًin excellence ثمّthen مَعرِفةًin knowledge
لاno غَروَwonder لِلشّمسِfor the sun أَنto تهديgive as a gift ليَto me القَمراthe moon
And indeed you are the sun in excellence, and then in knowledge;
No wonder the sun should give me the moon.
