في ذا الزَّمانِ اِعتَرى أَقرانَنا عِلل

في ذا الزَّمانِ اِعتَرى أَقرانَنا عِلل

مِن كلِّ داءٍ دَفينٍ صاحِ مُكتَمِنِ

مِن كلِّ داءٍ دَفينٍ صاحِ مُكتَمِنِ

In this age, maladies have beset our peers—

In this age, ailments have afflicted our peers,

every deep-seated, hidden disease, my friend.

From every deep-seated, hidden disease, my friend.

داوَيتَهم بِنِفاقٍ فَهوَ يَنفَعُهم

داوَيتَهم بِنِفاقٍ فَهوَ يَنفَعُهم

وَذا الدّواء اِقتَضَتهُ علَّةُ الزَّمنِ

وَذا الدّواء اِقتَضَتهُ علَّةُ الزَّمنِ

I treated them with hypocrisy, for it does them good;

You treated them with hypocrisy, for it benefits them,

this remedy was demanded by the malady of the age.

And this remedy was called for by the malady of the age.
