Behold, Shams al-Din is indeed a sun of learning,
Behold, the sun of religion is the sun of knowledge
Shining in the loftiest heaven of understanding and skill.
Rising in the highest heaven of wisdom and understanding

An Iyas in intelligence, chief judge in Jillaq,
Iyas the wise, chief judge of Baghdad
For his justice, people praise him and give thanks.
Whose justice people praise and thank

تَفَرّدَ في تَوضيحِهِ دونَ غَيرِهِ
علىwith حُسنِbeauty of أسلوبٍstyle يقلُّis scarce ويندُرُand is rare
على حُسنِ أسلوبٍ يقلُّ ويندُرُ
He stood alone in explaining it, with none to rival him,
He alone clarified it without equal
With a fine style, rare and seldom found.
In excellent style, rare and precious
فَلاso no غَروَwonder فيin أَنthat لمdid not يوضِّحهexplain it غيرهُanyone other than him
فَلا غَروَ في أَن لم يوضِّحه غيرهُ
أَيظهرdoes … reveal? غيرُanything other than الشّمسِthe sun ماwhat الشّمسُthe sun تُظهرُreveals
أَيظهر غيرُ الشّمسِ ما الشّمسُ تُظهرُ
So no wonder that no one else has explained it:
No wonder none other could clarify it
Does anything but the sun reveal what the sun reveals?
Can anyone but the sun reveal what the sun reveals?
