حَطَّhe placed فَوقَupon السّنطيرِthe psaltery مِنهُof his بَناناًfingertips
وَبَداand appeared مِنهُfrom him يَرقصُdancing السّنطيرُthe psaltery
He laid his fingertips upon the psaltery,
and at his touch the psaltery seemed to dance.
وَرَأَيتُand I saw السّنطيرthe psaltery صارَbecame هَزاراًa nightingale
إِذas تَغَنّىit sang لكِنbut لاnot يَطيرُit flies
And I saw the psaltery become a nightingale,
as it sang, yet did not fly.
