You revived Acre with water that grew sweet

    and surpassed sugar in taste.

It flowed as silver through a channel whose

pebbles became like pearls and jewels.

Its water is sweet and fresh, pleasant to drink,

and its sight delights the beholder.

You made it flow there, our Sulayman,

in sincere devotion to God, with bold resolve.

How could it be otherwise, when before this you had made flow

a spring called the Spring of Alexander?

So may God reward you with the finest recompense,

and may God give you drink from al-Kawthar,

and may God clothe you in the robe of favor,

in the Garden of Eternity and at the Gathering,

dwelling there forever with the Chosen One,

    adorned in fine green silk.

From his pool—mark the date—with deep draughts of bliss

you shall be given drink on the Day of Greatest Terror.
