ياoh حَبَّذاhow lovely ذاthis السلسبيلَthe sweet-flowing fountain فإنّهُfor it
يا حَبَّذا ذا السلسبيلَ فإنّهُ
يَجلوdispels الهمومَthe sorrows كماjust as يسرُّgladdens القلباthe heart
يَجلو الهمومَ كما يسرُّ القلبا
Oh, how lovely is this Salsabil fountain, for it
O you with the flowing locks, you have brought
dispels sorrows even as it gladdens the heart.
Relief from grief, as you cheer the heart.
أَعلىraised سليمانُSuleiman الزّمانof the age بناءَهُits structure
أَعلى سليمانُ الزّمان بناءَهُ
يَرجوhopes for مِنَfrom اللَّهِGod الرّضاfavor وَالقرباand nearness
يَرجو مِنَ اللَّهِ الرّضا وَالقربا
Suleiman of the age raised its structure,
Did Solomon in his time build anything higher
hoping for God's favor and nearness to Him.
Than this, hoping for God's pleasure and nearness?
فَزُلالهُfor its limpid water وهوَand it is اللّجينsilver إِذاwhen صَفاbecomes clear
فَزُلالهُ وهوَ اللّجين إِذا صَفا
يَعلوis exalted بِمَنظَرِهin its appearance ويَحلوand is sweet شُرباto drink
يَعلو بِمَنظَرِه ويَحلو شُربا
For its limpid water—silver when clear—
Its streams, though still, seem to flow,
is splendid to behold and sweet to drink.
Lovely to look at, sweet to drink.
ياoh طيبَهُits sweetness لَوif ذاقَهُtasted it أَرِّخrecord the date فمٌa mouth
يا طيبَهُ لَو ذاقَهُ أَرِّخ فمٌ
أحسِنْhow excellent بهwith it (exclamatory) ماءًas water معيناًflowing عذباsweet
أحسِنْ به ماءً معيناً عذبا
Oh, its sweetness, should a mouth taste it! Record the date:
If only a mouth that has tasted you
How excellent it is as flowing, sweet water!
