وَيَومand a day ثَلجٍof snow بِهon it قَوسُthe bow السّحابِof the clouds رَمىshot
وَيَوم ثَلجٍ بِه قَوسُ السّحابِ رَمى
حَتّىuntil بَداappeared فيهِon it وَجهُthe face الأَرضِof the earth مَلآناfull
حَتّى بَدا فيهِ وَجهُ الأَرضِ مَلآنا
And on a day of snow, the clouds’ bow let fly,
A day of snow, when the rainbow of clouds cast
Until the face of the earth appeared filled with snow.
Until the face of the earth appeared completely filled
كَأَنَّماas though السّحبthe clouds فيهِon it قَدindeed تَقولُsay لَناto us
كَأَنَّما السّحب فيهِ قَد تَقولُ لَنا
بِالبَردِof the cold موتواdie, you all فَقَدfor indeed حيَّكتُI have woven أَكفاناshrouds
بِالبَردِ موتوا فَقَد حيَّكتُ أَكفانا
As though the clouds that day were saying to us:
As if the clouds were saying to us
“Die of the cold, for I have woven shrouds.”
Die from the cold, for I have woven your shrouds
