عَذابٌtorment أَليمٌpainful عِندَto ذيone possessed of العِلمِknowledge والعَقلِand reason
عَذابٌ أَليمٌ عِندَ ذي العِلمِ والعَقلِ
And indeed, pairing a kind with what is not of its kind
For the joining of unlike kinds is painful doom
Is painful torment to one possessed of knowledge and reason.
To those of wisdom and intelligence that presume
وَماand not غايَةُthe utmost extent التعذيبِtorment عِنديin my view وكنْهُهand its essence
وَما غايَةُ التعذيبِ عِندي وكنْهُه

And to me, the height of torment and its very essence
And for me torture's epitome defined
Are nothing but pairing a learned man with a simpleton, a brother to ignorance.
Is but to couple enlightened mind with ignorant and blind
