وَإِنّيand indeed I قَدindeed رَضيتُhave accepted بِهِwith him حَبيباًas a beloved
وَإِنّي قَد رَضيتُ بِهِ حَبيباً
وَلَستُand I am not سِواهُanyone other than him مُتَّخذاًtaking خَليلاa close friend
وَلَستُ سِواهُ مُتَّخذاً خَليلا
And I have indeed accepted him as my beloved,
I have loved him and chosen him as a friend
And I take no one but him as a close friend.
I take no other but him as my companion
فَخَلِّso let النّاسَthe people تَسألُask عَنabout شَجيٍّone stricken with sorrow
فَخَلِّ النّاسَ تَسألُ عَن شَجيٍّ
وَذيand one possessed of وَجْدٍardent longing وَلَكِنbut عَنabout خليa carefree one لاno
وَذي وَجْدٍ وَلَكِن عَن خلي لا
So let people ask about one stricken with sorrow,
So leave people be, asking after whoever
And one filled with longing—but not about a carefree one.
With joy or sorrow, just ask after my friend
