وَإِنّيand indeed I am ضَنينٌpossessive بِالّذيof the one whom قَدindeed هَويتهُI have loved him
وَإِنّي ضَنينٌ بِالّذي قَد هَويتهُ
وَدينُand the creed الهوَىlove يَأبىrefuses مُشارَكةsharing اِثنَينِtwo
وَدينُ الهوَى يَأبى مُشارَكة اِثنَينِ
And I am possessive of the one I have loved,
I am so jealous of the one I love
And love's creed forbids sharing between two.
The religion of love refuses partnership of two
فَإِنso if تَتّسِعwiden فيin عِشقهِlove for him أَعيُنeyes الوَرىhumankind
فَإِن تَتّسِع في عِشقهِ أَعيُن الوَرى
فَإِنّيthen indeed I am عَلَيهِover him فيin الهَوىlove ضَيّقnarrow العَينِthe eye
فَإِنّي عَلَيهِ في الهَوى ضَيّق العَينِ
So if the eyes of humankind widen in love for him,
If the eyes of all people could bear his love
Then, in love for him, mine is a narrow, jealous eye.
Mine for him in love remains narrow
