وَأَقبِحْand how vile بِهhe is لَمdid not يَحوِamass غَيرَother than قَبائِحٍvices
وَأَقبِحْ بِه لَم يَحوِ غَيرَ قَبائِحٍ
وَلَمand did not يَحوِamass مِنany شَيءٍthing بِهِfor it النّاسُpeople تُمدَحُare praised
وَلَم يَحوِ مِن شَيءٍ بِهِ النّاسُ تُمدَحُ
And how vile he is! He has amassed nothing but vices.
He has not attempted anything but disgraceful affairs
And he has amassed nothing for which people are praised.
And gained by it no praise from any class of men
وَكَمand how many حازَacquired عَيباًa fault ماnot حَوَتهamassed it الوَرىhumankind كَماjust as
وَكَم حازَ عَيباً ما حَوَته الوَرى كَما
حَوىamassed ماwhat تُذَمُّare blamed النّاسُpeople فيهِfor it وتُقدحُand are disparaged
حَوى ما تُذَمُّ النّاسُ فيهِ وتُقدحُ
And how many a fault he has acquired that humankind has not amassed, just as
How much has he earned reproach for that which the lands contain
he has amassed what people are blamed and disparaged for.
Just as they earn reproach for that which people condemn and censure
