وَظالِمٍand an oppressor جائِرٍtyrannical بِالجَورِwith injustice يَظلِمُناhe wrongs us
وَظالِمٍ جائِرٍ بِالجَورِ يَظلِمُنا
مِنthrough غَيرِabsence of ذَنبٍfault لَناof ours فيin البَدوthe desert والحضَرِand the towns
مِن غَيرِ ذَنبٍ لَنا في البَدو والحضَرِ
And a tyrannical oppressor wrongs us unjustly,
By an unjust oppressor who wrongs us
Through no fault of ours, in desert and town.
Without any fault of ours, in the deserts and settled lands,
نَدعوwe pray عَلَيهِagainst him وَعَينُand the eye of الخلقِcreation نائِمةٌasleep
نَدعو عَلَيهِ وَعَينُ الخلقِ نائِمةٌ
وَيُستَجابُand is answered الدّعاthe prayer لاno شكّdoubt فيin السحَرِthe hours before dawn
وَيُستَجابُ الدّعا لا شكّ في السحَرِ
We pray against him while creation's eye sleeps,
We invoke curses upon him while the eyes of people sleep
And prayer is answered, without doubt, in the hours before dawn.
And invocations are surely answered before dawn.
