وَأَغيَدand a supple youth تَحكيresembles الخَيزرانَةthe bamboo cane قامَةًin stature
وَأَغيَد تَحكي الخَيزرانَة قامَةً
تَميسُsways gracefully كَغُصنِlike a bough of البانِthe moringa tree بِالروحِwith my soul أَفديهاI would ransom it
تَميسُ كَغُصنِ البانِ بِالروحِ أَفديها
And a supple youth whose stature the bamboo mirrors,
The slender fig tree tells of swaying
Swaying like a moringa bough—I would ransom that form with my soul.
She breathes like a juniper branch, I would ransom her
فَلَوfor if قامَhe rose يَمشيhe walks فَوقَupon إِنسانِthe pupil of مُقلَتيmy eye
فَلَو قامَ يَمشي فَوقَ إِنسانِ مُقلَتي
لَماwould not عَلِمَتit sensed فيهِof him وَماnor كانَhe would يُؤذيهاharm it
لَما عَلِمَت فيهِ وَما كانَ يُؤذيها
For if he rose to walk upon the pupil of my eye,
So if it arose and walked upon my eyelashes
It would not sense him, nor would he harm it.
It would not know of it, nor would it harm her
