نَصبت فَشمت النّجمَ أَسفل مِن تَختي
And a couch over a river whose water had grown clear,
A bed upon a river whose waters have run dry
I set up, and beheld the star beneath my couch.
I set up to inhale the stars below my bed
فَتَهتُso I exulted بِهِin it أُنساًwith delight وَلِمْand why لَمْnot أتِهI exult بهِin it
فَتَهتُ بِهِ أُنساً وَلِمْ لَمْ أتِه بهِ
وَهَذيand this السّماthe sky وَالأَنجمand the stars الزُّهرthe shining مِنfrom تَحتيbeneath me
وَهَذي السّما وَالأَنجم الزُّهر مِن تَحتي
So I exulted in it with delight—and why should I not exult in it?
With it I became distracted forgetting why
And this sky and the shining stars are beneath me.
As the sky and stars are flowers underneath my head
