ياah! لَيتَif only حِبّيmy beloved الأحورَdark-eyed الأَلمىdusky-lipped الّذيwho
يا لَيتَ حِبّي الأحورَ الأَلمى الّذي
حازَhas acquired المَحاسِنَthe beauties ماnot بِهِof him مِنany عالمِone who knows
حازَ المَحاسِنَ ما بِهِ مِن عالمِ
Ah, if only my dark-eyed, dusky-lipped beloved, who
Oh, if only my beloved, with eyes so bright,
possesses every beauty, were known to no one!
Who gained all beauty the world could ever hold,
إِنّيindeed I أَغارُam jealous عَلَيهover him أَعظَمَthe greatest غيرةٍjealousy
إِنّي أَغارُ عَلَيه أَعظَمَ غيرةٍ
مِنّيof myself وَمِنهُand of him وَمِنand of جَميعِall العالَمِthe world
مِنّي وَمِنهُ وَمِن جَميعِ العالَمِ
Indeed, I am jealous over him with the fiercest jealousy—
Knew how fiercely I guard what is hers by right,
even of myself, of him, and of the whole world.
More than herself, or I, or all the world untold.
