جَفانِيَ مَعشوقي وَأَطنَبَ بِالجَفا

جَفانِيَ مَعشوقي وَأَطنَبَ بِالجَفا

فَصَمّمت أَنّي أَهتَوي غَيرَ هاجِري

فَصَمّمت أَنّي أَهتَوي غَيرَ هاجِري

My beloved shunned me and went to extremes in coldness.

My beloved shunned me and was overly aloof

So I resolved to love someone other than the one who forsakes me.

So I was determined to pine for another

فَإِنَّ المَعاشيقَ الأَحاسِنَ شَأنُهُم

فَإِنَّ المَعاشيقَ الأَحاسِنَ شَأنُهُم

لَهُم غَيرَةٌ مِن بَعضِهِم كَالضّرائِرِ

لَهُم غَيرَةٌ مِن بَعضِهِم كَالضّرائِرِ

For beautiful beloveds have this trait:

For the nature of beauties is

They are jealous of one another, like co-wives.

That they are jealous of one another like rivals
