وَمزّقَ الحبُّ أَعضائي وَأَوصالي
I am he—to me the judge of passion gave revelation;
I am the one to whom love's judge bequeathed love.
and love tore apart my limbs and joints.
And love tore apart my limbs and my joints.
ياO مَنyou who لِنارِfor the fire of الجَوىyearning طفّاءa quencher أَوصاليmy limbs
يا مَن لِنارِ الجَوى طفّاء أَوصالي
أَطفيQuench بِوَصلِكَthrough union with you لَهيبَthe blaze of المُغرمِthe enamored lover المضنىthe exhausted one
أَطفي بِوَصلِكَ لَهيبَ المُغرمِ المضنى
O you! My limbs are quenchers of passion’s fire;
O you who quench the fire of yearning in my limbs,
through union with you, I quench the worn lover’s blaze,
Quench, through union with you, the exhausted lover's blaze.
لَعَلَّperhaps نارَthe fire of الجَوىyearning تُطفىwill be quenched بِأَوصاليwith my limbs
لَعَلَّ نارَ الجَوى تُطفى بِأَوصالي
that perhaps passion’s fire may be quenched by my limbs.
Perhaps the fire of yearning will be quenched with my limbs.
