أَسَأتُ مُقَصِّراً وَالعذرُ بادٍ
وعَفوكَand your pardon عَنfor مثاليone like me لاnot يضيقُis narrow
وعَفوكَ عَن مثالي لا يضيقُ
I have wronged and fallen short, though my excuse is plain;
I have done wrong, falling short, and my excuse is plain.
and your pardon has room for one such as I.
And your pardon is not too narrow for one like me.

Suppose that I deserve every fault—
And suppose I am guilty of every sin—
then you deserve every noble quality.
For you are worthy of every noble deed.
