لمَّاwhen عِشقتُI fell in love طَردتI drove away النّومَsleep عَنfrom مُقليmy eyes
لمَّا عِشقتُ طَردت النّومَ عَن مُقلي
وَقَدand has تَولَّىturned away وَماand not قَدhas زارَvisited ليmy حَدقاpupils
وَقَد تَولَّى وَما قَد زارَ لي حَدقا
When I fell in love, I drove sleep from my eyes.
When I fell in love, sleep was banished from my eyes
And it has turned away and has not visited my pupils.
Though it has long deserted me and seldom visits anymore
فَالعِشقُfor love وَالنّومُand sleep ضِدَّانِtwo opposites اِجتِماعُهماtheir union
فَالعِشقُ وَالنّومُ ضِدَّانِ اِجتِماعُهما
مِنَof المُحالِthe impossible فَلاso no نَومsleep لِمَنfor whoever عَشِقاhas fallen in love
مِنَ المُحالِ فَلا نَوم لِمَن عَشِقا
For love and sleep are opposites; their union
For love and sleep are opposites; it's impossible
Is impossible, so there is no sleep for one who has fallen in love.
For one who's in love to sleep
