جَميلٌa handsome man تَودُّlongs for الشّمسُthe sun مثلَthe like of جَمالِهِhis beauty
جَميلٌ تَودُّ الشّمسُ مثلَ جَمالِهِ
كَماjust as ودَّlonged for غُصنُthe bough الرَّوضِthe garden ليناًsuppleness بعِطفِهِin his waist
كَما ودَّ غُصنُ الرَّوضِ ليناً بعِطفِهِ
A handsome man—the sun longs for beauty like his.
Beautiful as the sun, his grace
Just as the garden bough longed for the suppleness in his waist.
As the branch loves the garden's gentle bend
فَماso not فيهِin him شَيءٌa thing مائلٌbent غَيرُexcept عِطفِهhis waist
فَما فيهِ شَيءٌ مائلٌ غَيرُ عِطفِه
وَماand not فيهin him شيءٌa thing خارجٌprotruding غيرُexcept رِدْفِهِhis rump
وَما فيه شيءٌ خارجٌ غيرُ رِدْفِهِ
So nothing in him is bent except his waist,
Nothing in him leans but his grace
And nothing in him protrudes except his rump.
Nothing in him reaches beyond his mantle
