كَريمٌa generous man مُضاهيهِhis equal عَديمٌnonexistent وُجودهhis existence
كَريمٌ مُضاهيهِ عَديمٌ وُجوده
كَأَنas though لَمnot يَكُنthere had been قبلُbefore الكرامُthe noble men الأماجدُthe illustrious
كَأَن لَم يَكُن قبلُ الكرامُ الأماجدُ
A generous man whose equal does not exist,
A generous man, none can match him, his like is nowhere to be found
as though noble, illustrious men had never existed before.
As if before him no generous and glorious men ever did abound
وَماand not كُنتI was فيin مَدحيmy praise لَهُof him الدّهرَever واحِداًalone
وَما كُنت في مَدحي لَهُ الدّهرَ واحِداً
وَلَكِنّهُbut he فيin الجودِgenerosity وَالمَجدِand glory واحدُunique
وَلَكِنّهُ في الجودِ وَالمَجدِ واحدُ
And I have never been alone in praising him,
Nor have I in praising him singled him out alone through time
but he stands alone in generosity and glory.
But in generosity and glory he stands peerless, sublime
