فَقامَ وَقَد أَبدى لَنا حسنَ أَعذارِ
After it sprouted, the down on his cheeks scattered;
His cheek-down fell away after it had grown;
then it rose, having shown us fair excuses.
So it rose, having offered us fine excuses,
وَقالَand it said لَظىthe blaze خَدَّيهِof his two cheeks لمّاwhen تَسَعَّرتit flared up
وَقالَ لَظى خَدَّيهِ لمّا تَسَعَّرت
فَلَمso … not أَستَطِعI could أَنِّيthat I أُقيمُremain عَلىupon النّارِthe fire
فَلَم أَستَطِع أَنِّي أُقيمُ عَلى النّارِ
And it said, when the blaze of his cheeks flared:
And said: “When the blaze of his cheeks flared up,
“For I could not remain upon the fire.”
I could not then remain upon the fire.”
