لَعَمرُكَby your life ذاthis السّلسبيلَthe Salsabil fountain بَناهُbuilt it
لَعَمرُكَ ذا السّلسبيلَ بَناهُ
سُلَيمانSulayman ذوpossessor of المَجدِglory أَسمىmost exalted وزيرِminister
سُلَيمان ذو المَجدِ أَسمى وزيرِ
By your life, he built this Salsabīl fountain—
By your life, this Salsabil fountain was built
Sulaymān, lord of glory, the most exalted vizier.
by Sulayman, possessor of glory, the most exalted minister.
بَنىmay He build اللّهُGod ربّيmy Lord وَشادَand may He erect وَأَعلىand may He raise high
بَنى اللّهُ ربّي وَشادَ وَأَعلى
لَهُfor him فيin الجنانِthe gardens of Paradise أجلَّthe grandest القصورِthe palaces
لَهُ في الجنانِ أجلَّ القصورِ
May God, my Lord, build, erect, and exalt
May God, my Lord, build, erect, and raise
for him, in Paradise, the grandest palaces.

صَفاbecame clear ماؤُهُits water وَحَلاand became sweet بِاِرتشافٍwhen sipped
صَفا ماؤُهُ وَحَلا بِاِرتشافٍ
وَطابَand was pleasant مَذاقاًin taste بِرَشفِthrough sipping الثّغورِthe lips
وَطابَ مَذاقاً بِرَشفِ الثّغورِ
Its water is limpid and sweet when sipped,
Its water is clear and sweet when sipped,
delightful in flavor as lips drink it.
and pleasant to the taste when sipped by the lips.
تَراهُyou see it مِنَfrom الصّفوِpurity أَرَّختI recorded its date نوراًas light
تَراهُ مِنَ الصّفوِ أَرَّخت نوراً
وفيهand in it شفاءٌhealing لماfor what فيis in الصدورِthe breasts
وفيه شفاءٌ لما في الصدورِ
You see it, from its purity, casting radiance;
You see it, from its purity—I recorded its date—as light,
and in it is healing for what lies within the breasts.
