للّهِFor God! (expressing admiration) خالٌa mole بوسطِin the middle of وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek
للّهِ خالٌ بوسطِ وَجْنَتِهِ
بحُبِّهِfor love of it الصَّبُّthe lovesick lover ماnot بهِin him رَمَقُa breath of life
بحُبِّهِ الصَّبُّ ما بهِ رَمَقُ
How wondrous the mole in the middle of his cheek!
In the middle of God's garden is an empty space
For love of it, the lovesick lover has no breath of life left.
The youth, in his love, has no respite
كأنّهُas though it were عَنبَرٌambergris علىupon لَهَبٍa flame
كأنّهُ عَنبَرٌ على لَهَبٍ
يَفوحُit exudes طِيباًfragrance ولَيْسَand does not يَحْتَرِقُburn
يَفوحُ طِيباً ولَيْسَ يَحْتَرِقُ
It is like ambergris upon a flame:
As if it were ambergris on fire
It exudes fragrance, yet does not burn.
Exuding fragrance, but not burning
