عَذولِيَ قَد قالَ لا عِرقَ يَبدو

عَذولِيَ قَد قالَ لا عِرقَ يَبدو

لِوَردِ الخُدودِ وَذا القَولُ فسقُ

لِوَردِ الخُدودِ وَذا القَولُ فسقُ

My reproacher has said, 'No root is visible

My friend said there's no sweat that shows

For the rose of the cheeks'—and this claim is impiety.

On the cheeks of roses, and that claim's not right

فَقالَ الحَبيبُ عَذولُكَ أَعمى

فَقالَ الحَبيبُ عَذولُكَ أَعمى

فَإِنّ عِذاري للوَردِ عرقُ

فَإِنّ عِذاري للوَردِ عرقُ

So the beloved said, 'Your reproacher is blind,

So my love replied: "Friend, you must be blind

For my cheek-down is the rose's root.'

For the dew on roses is their sweat of light"
