قالَ الصّديقُ مُعاتِباً ما لي أرى

قالَ الصّديقُ مُعاتِباً ما لي أرى

لِصَداقَتي تَنحَطُّ منكَ وَتَهبِطُ

لِصَداقَتي تَنحَطُّ منكَ وَتَهبِطُ

The friend said reproachfully, “Why do I see

My friend reproached me saying: Why do I see

my friendship with you declining and sinking?”

Our friendship descending and falling from you?

فَأَجَبتهُ رَدّاً علَيهِ قائِلا

فَأَجَبتهُ رَدّاً علَيهِ قائِلا

ورق الرّبى غبّ التلوُّنِ يسقطُ

ورق الرّبى غبّ التلوُّنِ يسقطُ

So I answered him, saying in reply:

I answered him in response:

“Leaves on the hills fall after changing color.”

Autumn leaves change colors and fall.
