In the seas of your generosity, glories drown.

And by the sword of your might, villains are slaughtered.

By the light of your face, this age is illuminated.

Through you it has joy; all of it is festivals.

Through your sound judgment, surrounded by right guidance,

rightness and sound counsel appear along its course.

In the shade of your justice, which no decline touches,

lands it embraces, and their people, thrive.

At the gate of your eminence, every good fortune stands.

And at the gate of your glory, lions bow.

The lightning-flashes of your resolve are indeed brilliant.

And the swords of your might are indeed sharp.

When you are mentioned to the enemy, it is as though

    a fish—the electric ray—were in his palm.

When you assault thousands of enemies,

you scatter them, and their thousands become isolated individuals.

When you draw keen blades against the enemies,

their sheaths are entrails and livers.

When you brandish spearheads against the enemies,

heads and bodies are strung upon them.

When the noble are mentioned in an assembly,

they mention you alone, and the enumeration ends.

You are all the noble ones, and bear their name; how often

have individuals taken the names of multitudes!

Never have you rebuked a petitioner, even if

the seekers from among humankind flocked to you.

And even if you rebuke him, glad tidings are his, for

his body and heart live through your generosity.

The earth has glad tidings of spring when

lightning and thunder come before it.

And if you are without a peer, it has not been permitted

that no equals of yours be seen among humankind.

If time claims there is someone resembling you,

the exceptional individuals have turned it back from its claim.

No one like you has ever been made a ruler in existence.

How could creation grant one like you?

O rider above al-Suha upon the back of the heights,

with good fortune, they submit whenever you lead them.

If your house were in heaven, it would be

built in heaven's heart upon the auspicious stars.

Were you a star, no sun would appear, nor

would any land among humankind shine by anyone but you.

Were the giving of joy gladdened by some youth other than you,

how greatly the giving of joy is gladdened by one like you!

You have an ambition like lightning, and it is lofty.

Beside it, the stakes seem like feathers.

You have an awe before which lions are afraid.

And before it, mountains are crushed in battle.

O Acre's good fortune, when you raised its beacon!

And lions raise the standing of the thicket.

The base French came to its meadow,

but repulsion turned them back from capturing it.

Blindness engulfed the eyes of their insight,

and they imagined error was right guidance.

In their ignorance, with their own hands they hurled themselves

    toward destruction, astray, and submitted.

They conquered kings in combat, and obtained

through war what they wished and intended against them.

But you were created to subdue them and slaughter them.

Surely you are destined to subdue them.

You quenched the fire of their wars with fire like it,

and it died away, with none of them able to kindle it.

Never did they wage their wars against you without becoming

    overwhelmed by humiliation and dejection.

You dressed them in red cloaks of blood,

so their women's garments are black.

They are surely like an ember of the night

that at morning has become ashes.

O Acre's pride among the lands, for it is

the crown of lands, their wall and pillar.

There I defended the faith, the faith of Muhammad,

and demolished what the unbelievers had built.

Through you our wealth and lands were protected,

and our blood, honor, and children.

Woe to a people who denied you in ignorance!

Errancy is ignorance, and straying is obstinacy.

If they deny what you have done, then

denying your merit in this world is impiety.

Your Lord would never leave a striver unrewarded

whose striving had been for His sake.

He has indeed bestowed on you worthy praise,

until even adversaries came to offer it.

A worthy reputation among humankind is like ambergris,

until it spread and the envious spread it abroad.

Fighting them is the highest of your virtues, which

    exhaust the numbers when counted.

Rather, that is among your beautiful good deeds on

the Day of Resurrection, and it is excellent provision.

Had you nothing else, it would suffice you on

the day when people and witnesses stand.

O al-Jazzar, slaughterer of the enemies' necks,

O you who embody the lords and the glorious!

I am a man among those who love whoever

you have loved, and oppose whomever you hate.

And among those for whom the account of thanking you

is always recited in their presence and repeated.

They are the people of Beirut, who are adorned

about their necks with the pearls of your giving.

You have won them, and their affection for you is sincere.

They have no affection for anyone but you.

It has no lack, and none shares it with you.

Rather, for you it continually grows.

I have indeed served you with an ode of praise,

and praising one like you among humankind is right guidance.

Like a shy maiden whose eyelids modesty lowers,

and whose supple figure sways gracefully in your praise.

It has come to you to kiss a palm

that sustains seekers of bounty and those who come to drink.

It seeks nothing but approval, and it

hopes for acceptance, which is its true desire.

Be safe, and remain fortunate in lofty honor.

May aid and happiness ever attend you,

as long as speech's fragrance and sweetness make sweet

the composing and reciting of your praise.
