A ship built with good fortune by a prince,
A ship built with good fortune by a prince
Noble in virtues, praiseworthy in qualities:
Noble, praiseworthy, virtuous in traits
محمّدٌMuhammad الشّهمُthe gallant شمسُsun المعاليlofty honors
محمّدٌ الشّهمُ شمسُ المعالي
هزَبْرُa lion الحروبwars وبحرand an ocean الصلاتِgifts
هزَبْرُ الحروب وبحر الصلاتِ
Muhammad the gallant, sun of lofty honors,
Muhammad the valiant, sun of glories
A lion in war and an ocean of gifts.
Vanquisher of wars, sea of connections
رَفيعُexalted المَقامِrank كَريمُnoble السّجاياcharacter traits
رَفيعُ المَقامِ كَريمُ السّجايا
جَميلُgracious الطّباعِdispositions بِأَحسَنِwith the finest ذاتِnature
جَميلُ الطّباعِ بِأَحسَنِ ذاتِ
Exalted in rank, noble in character,
Lofty in station, generous in character
Gracious in disposition, endowed with the finest nature.
Beautiful in nature, best in essence
بَناهاhe built her بِعِزٍّwith honor ورفعةِand loftiness مجدٍglory
بَناها بِعِزٍّ ورفعةِ مجدٍ
علىupon حُسْنِgoodness حظٍّfortune يُسرُّgladdens الذّواتِpeople
على حُسْنِ حظٍّ يُسرُّ الذّواتِ
He built her with honor and lofty glory,
He built it with might and glory's esteem
With good fortune that gladdens people.
On excellent luck that cheers the souls
فَجاءَتso she emerged كَطَودٍlike a mountain تَطولُshe reaches الثريّاthe Pleiades
فَجاءَت كَطَودٍ تَطولُ الثريّا
ومنهاand from her تفرُّflee سَفينships العِداةِthe enemies
ومنها تفرُّ سَفين العِداةِ
So she rose like a mountain, reaching the Pleiades,
It came like a towering dune, towering high
And the enemies' ships flee from her.
From which the enemies' ships flee away
تَطيرُshe flies كَبَرقٍlike lightning بِأيَّةِwith any ريحٍwind
تَطيرُ كَبَرقٍ بِأيَّةِ ريحٍ
فَتَسبِقُso she outpaces سَيرَmovement الشهبِthe gray ones البزاةِthe falcons
فَتَسبِقُ سَيرَ الشهبِ البزاةِ
She flies like lightning in any wind,
It flies like lightning by any wind
And outpaces the flight of the gray falcons.
Outpacing the shooting stars' speed
تَسيرُit travels بِهاwith her أَينwherever سارَتit went وأرِّخْand record the date
تَسيرُ بِها أَين سارَت وأرِّخْ
بِكَيفَwith 'how' أَحبّتshe loved رِياحwinds النَّجاةِdeliverance
بِكَيفَ أَحبّت رِياح النَّجاةِ
The wind carries her wherever it goes; record the date
Sail it wherever it sailed, and record
With: "How she loved the winds of deliverance!"
