قدindeed طابَhas grown sweet ماءُwater الحَياةِlife فيin فمِهِhis mouth
قد طابَ ماءُ الحَياةِ في فمِهِ
فَالشَّهدُfor honey لمhas not يحكِهmatched it ولاnor الخمرَهْwine
فَالشَّهدُ لم يحكِه ولا الخمرَهْ
The water of life has indeed grown sweet in his mouth.
The water of life is sweet in his mouth,
For honey has not matched it, nor has wine.
So neither honey nor wine can compete.
فَلَيسَso it is not بِدْعاًanything strange نَباتُthe growth شارِبِهِhis mustache
فَلَيسَ بِدْعاً نَباتُ شارِبِهِ
فَإِنَّماfor only الماءُwater يُنبِتُmakes grow الخضرَهْgreenery
فَإِنَّما الماءُ يُنبِتُ الخضرَهْ
So the growth of his mustache is nothing strange:
No wonder he who drinks grows like a sprouting reed,
For it is water that makes greenery grow.
For water makes all greenery complete.
