يا رُبَّ شَخصٍ جاءَ يَمضغُ أَكلَهُ

يا رُبَّ شَخصٍ جاءَ يَمضغُ أَكلَهُ

فَرَأيت حالاً غيرَ حالِ الآكلِ

فَرَأيت حالاً غيرَ حالِ الآكلِ

Oh, many a person came chewing his food;

O Lord, someone came chewing his food

Then I saw a state unlike that of an eater.

So I saw a state unlike that of the eater

وَرَأَيتَهُ في حينِ حَرَّكَ فَكَّهُ

وَرَأَيتَهُ في حينِ حَرَّكَ فَكَّهُ

مُتَشدِّقاً مثلَ الأتانِ الحائلِ

مُتَشدِّقاً مثلَ الأتانِ الحائلِ

And I saw him, as he moved his jaw,

And you saw him as he moved his jaw

Opening his mouth wide like a she-ass not with foal.

Gaping like a braying donkey
