لَقَدindeed أَنحَلَemaciated الهِجرانُseparation جِسمِيَmy body فيin الهَوىlove
لَقَد أَنحَلَ الهِجرانُ جِسمِيَ في الهَوى
فَعَنso, from أَعيُنِthe eyes الرّائينَonlookers فيin العِشقِpassionate love ضِعتُI vanished
فَعَن أَعيُنِ الرّائينَ في العِشقِ ضِعتُ
Separation has indeed wasted my body in love;
The pangs of longing wasted me away,
So, in passionate love, I have vanished from the eyes of onlookers.
And to the eyes of lovers I grew frail.
فَلَوso if أَنّthat برغوثاًa flea وُضِعتُI were placed بِثَغرِهِin its mouth
فَلَو أَنّ برغوثاً وُضِعتُ بِثَغرِهِ
لَماthen would not ضاقَbe too narrow عَنّيfor me ثَغرهits mouth إِذwhen وُضِعتُI was placed
لَما ضاقَ عَنّي ثَغره إِذ وُضِعتُ
So if I were placed in a flea’s mouth,
If I, like an ant, were brought to his mouth,
Its mouth would not be too narrow for me when I was placed there.
It would not feel cramped, for I am frail.
