روحيmy soul فِداءُransom for عِذارٍcheek-down حَلَّsettled on وَجنَةَthe cheek of مَنْone who
فاقَoutshone الكَواكِبَthe heavenly bodies شَمساًsun ثمَّthen أَقماراmoons
My soul be ransom for the cheek-down that settled on the cheek of one
My soul is a ransom for the radiance that adorns a cheek,
Who outshone the heavenly bodies—the sun, then the moons.
Surpassing suns and moons in splendor.
لَولاwere it not for العِذارthe cheek-down لَماwould not have اِسْطاعَتْbeen able لَناof ours مُقَلٌeyes
إِلىtoward مُحيّاهُhis countenance باهيradiant in الحُسنِbeauty إِبصاراseeing
Were it not for the cheek-down, our eyes could not
Without such radiance, no eyes could have borne
Gaze upon his countenance, radiant in beauty.
To gaze upon that face of beauteous allure.
كَالشَّمسِlike the sun لمdid not تُطِقbear الأبصارُthe eyes رُؤيَتَهاseeing it
لَولاwere it not for سَحابٌa cloud لِطيفٍdelicate حَولَهاaround it داراcircled
As with the sun, eyes could not bear to behold it
Like the sun none can endure to see,
Were it not for a delicate cloud that circled it.
Were it not for the soft clouds veiling its flare.
